So if you order you miniatures will be dispatched in a couple of weeks, if you want them soon it would be good to order soon as then you will get priority of the stock.<br />

<br />
Ii Naomasa finally painted up. Plus news of the kickstarter, I'm just waiting for a couple of masters from the Mouldmaker and I can launch, the masters are important as I cannot get my camera to show up the detail on the origanal sculpts, I want to show the miniatures at their best to maximise backing plus being masters it show the exact figure you will receive. I'm hoping to get them back next week so it will be an early February release now. I know this has been a long time coming but I'm a one man operation, and I want things done well then it will be worth your wait!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01519813918899828726noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261293610557970804.post-45037819793867624812015-01-05T08:31:00.002-08:002015-01-05T08:31:45.223-08:00Website fixedjust to say the website problem is now sorted, and all orders will be out by the weeks endAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01519813918899828726noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261293610557970804.post-21241452060442622792014-12-30T12:07:00.001-08:002014-12-30T12:07:21.833-08:00Website problemjust to let everyone know there is a problem with the website and it's not processing orders.<br />

This is the latest sculpt for the kickstarter. Shimazu Yoshihiro a veteran general from many campaigns, at Sekigahara his advice was ignored thus insulting him, so when called to support the battle he delayed, although once they did charge they nearly cut through to Ieyasu himself before being repulsed.<br />There is not much armour surviving but the Yoroi or body armour with the tasets is dipicted here. He is leaning forward pensively stroking his beard. Now onto the next figure</div>

This figure is for all the backers of the forthcoming kickstarter, he will only be available during the kickstarter.<br />
It is a variant of tokugawa Ieyasu in a fierce looking namban or western armour. The original has bullet marks on it that have been rendered on to the miniature.<br />

I have not changed the prices for three years, mainly because I'm always so busy making figures I don't have time. But now I have to as I'm losing too much money on it.<br />
<br />
So from next Wednesday prices will be<br />
For uk 12%<br />
Europe 17%<br />
Rest of world 25%<br />
<br />
Orders over £50 are going to be free postage.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01519813918899828726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261293610557970804.post-56531200641796287182014-10-09T05:20:00.000-07:002014-10-09T05:20:17.141-07:00Blog issueI seem to have lost the pics on the blog, so bear with me as I will either sort it of do a Facebook page.<br />

Tutorial 2This tutorial is about how I paint black samurai armour. Also in the tutorial I'm featuring how I paint that really closely laced armour.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5UQ5Il3uyXU/U0UnmxwkNpI/AAAAAAAABIM/bxniu9Va0w4/s1600/IMG_0245.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5UQ5Il3uyXU/U0UnmxwkNpI/AAAAAAAABIM/bxniu9Va0w4/s1600/IMG_0245.JPG" height="320" width="203" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Firstly I undercoat the miniature spraying it with grey car primer, you could also use darker grey. I don't undercoat black because I want the grey to shine through giving a lacured armour look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iIU5UPjinAw/U0Uohfiq_YI/AAAAAAAABIU/2oICPdgXq10/s1600/IMG_0246.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iIU5UPjinAw/U0Uohfiq_YI/AAAAAAAABIU/2oICPdgXq10/s1600/IMG_0246.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next I have allowed the primer to dry completely, then apply a coat of black wash, I use GW nuln oil.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't put it on too thick, this will act a a guide coat, but also forms the base coat for the armour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ty1Kr_iNwrQ/U0UpU416UBI/AAAAAAAABIc/HWv-CfXxOZA/s1600/IMG_0263.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ty1Kr_iNwrQ/U0UpU416UBI/AAAAAAAABIc/HWv-CfXxOZA/s1600/IMG_0263.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I have added a few of the base colours, try not to use an over complex colour scheme, I feel most figures need to be somewhat muted, leaving a few boldly coloured miniatures to standout. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However I usually like to slpash a bit of colour on the miniature, here I have used the bright green of the bamboo sashimono to add that splash, as I want the rest of the miniature to look dark. The horse furniture is chestnut, and the base colour of the horse is bay brown, at this point I have also painted the horses feet tail face and main black, as this is to look like a different black from the armour. And I have painted the spear tip and the mail metal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a6hKOx581RY/U0Urb9UupwI/AAAAAAAABIo/_HlAhJ-5TFs/s1600/IMG_0265.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a6hKOx581RY/U0Urb9UupwI/AAAAAAAABIo/_HlAhJ-5TFs/s1600/IMG_0265.JPG" height="320" width="313" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I have given the armour another coat of black wash also cover the sashimono, lance and tip with wash to give some base shade.You can see the armour starting to darken now. Also I have given a couple of small splashes of red to the miniature, I have also but the next level of shade on the horse furnature. And painted the under arms with drab, this part was lots of different colors, just pick one that compliments the colour scheme your going for, I find neutral colours like drab compliment most armours, however grey blue was often used, and that compliments most armour too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mHYhG3COZSc/U0UtPmMkkhI/AAAAAAAABI0/lZJjmgP8sEE/s1600/IMG_0273.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mHYhG3COZSc/U0UtPmMkkhI/AAAAAAAABI0/lZJjmgP8sEE/s1600/IMG_0273.JPG" height="312" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here I have painted the katana fittings gold, later to be washed with brown wash like agrax earth shade. For the katana case they were usually black, browns, reds or a similar colour to armour lacures </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also the little bag on the back of the horse a neutral colour. Note on the horse furniture the laces on the side are where it is tied to the saddle so should be the same colour. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kt5e4pThSdE/U0UvOixgWRI/AAAAAAAABJA/Rul_BwM9MTs/s1600/IMG_0283.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kt5e4pThSdE/U0UvOixgWRI/AAAAAAAABJA/Rul_BwM9MTs/s1600/IMG_0283.JPG" height="229" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once you are happy that the armour is dark enough, usually three coats of wash for me, plus one more on darker parts, we start the tricky bit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using a mid grey colour on a smaller brush it's time to start highlighting the armour, just on the points that catch the light, such as the top of the cheeks chin and nose of the mask, the edges and brim of the kabuto, I have also put I slight crescent of grey on the upper helmet bowl. You will note in this closer picture that the washes have gone between all the lacing, I have not highlighted It and it does not need to be, this will save you a lot of time because you don't need to pick each lace out just let the washes over the properly dry base coat do the work, as the wash will highlight detail that's almost impossible to paint by hand for most painters. Just remember when using washes to allow it to dry properly between coats, and don't put it on too thick or it will looked botched. You can of course highlight the lacing I sometimes do but it's not necessary.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0saYs-PJ4xI/U0Uy78Uk-LI/AAAAAAAABJM/MqjbOYJ-4fo/s1600/IMG_0284.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0saYs-PJ4xI/U0Uy78Uk-LI/AAAAAAAABJM/MqjbOYJ-4fo/s1600/IMG_0284.JPG" height="320" width="217" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have now started highlighting the bamboo leaves with lighter green painted the sash, sandles, and started highlighting other colours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qs4_sOOKr8c/U0Uz85xyoeI/AAAAAAAABJU/jV0Yss1EN0Y/s1600/IMG_0287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qs4_sOOKr8c/U0Uz85xyoeI/AAAAAAAABJU/jV0Yss1EN0Y/s1600/IMG_0287.JPG" height="320" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now for the finishing touches, I have painted the clothes under the armpits blue, highlighted the bamboo with lighter green, and brown washed the horse furniture for definition. Also higlight the spear tip and sword fittings. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5XVo35TMSsY/U0U1K2FKbqI/AAAAAAAABJg/oCSuf0_rpN8/s1600/IMG_0288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5XVo35TMSsY/U0U1K2FKbqI/AAAAAAAABJg/oCSuf0_rpN8/s1600/IMG_0288.JPG" height="320" width="313" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The rest of the highlighting is up too you, I have not based the miniature so may soon update the tutorial.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally here are some quick tips to get a classy looking collection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take your time, think about what your painting, not what your going to paint next.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use complimentary colours, balancing bold colours with neutral contrasts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Don't over complicate things for yourself, I also recommend you don't attempt eyes on these figures just let the ink slip into the detail. I have seen to many well painted miniatures ruined by massive eyes.<br />
If it does not look like it needs highlighting don't bother.<br />
Finally correct mistakes at the end, because you may forget where they are, and if you forget they don't matter.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01519813918899828726noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6261293610557970804.post-39794454968005354122014-04-07T10:39:00.001-07:002014-04-09T05:58:58.076-07:00Assembling a mounted samuraiThis tutorial is to help you assemble your miniatures, as the have some difficult bits and some collectors may find this helpful in getting their miniatures to look natural.<br />
<br />
First you will need these or similar tools, please note if you use these kind of tools you should know how to use them safely and you accept your own responsiblity as they can be dangerous.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HqQtvjTbJQI/U0LYvGzxUuI/AAAAAAAABGc/8ZEQ5K1uJMk/s1600/IMG_0310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HqQtvjTbJQI/U0LYvGzxUuI/AAAAAAAABGc/8ZEQ5K1uJMk/s1600/IMG_0310.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next here is the miniature I have chosen, a variation of one you will have already seen, there is also a separate crest and steel lance for supporting the sashimono.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hKho9reDPpw/U0LZOcLhIYI/AAAAAAAABGk/g5TzUK-5rBE/s1600/IMG_0309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hKho9reDPpw/U0LZOcLhIYI/AAAAAAAABGk/g5TzUK-5rBE/s1600/IMG_0309.JPG" height="271" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First thing is to use your files and scalpel to remove any mould lines, I will not explain how to do this as most of you will already be familiar with how to do that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we want to drill out any holes for holding weapons sashimono swords.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cd2pi205dww/U0LaCiPhbqI/AAAAAAAABGs/Ys7bbLC_fys/s1600/IMG_0311.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cd2pi205dww/U0LaCiPhbqI/AAAAAAAABGs/Ys7bbLC_fys/s1600/IMG_0311.JPG" height="232" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here you can see the hole for the sashimono this will need drilling, I recommend a one point two drill bit but one mm will be fine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ACWXKQAHnpM/U0Lak8wIUXI/AAAAAAAABG0/yfESYaiATgk/s1600/IMG_0312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ACWXKQAHnpM/U0Lak8wIUXI/AAAAAAAABG0/yfESYaiATgk/s1600/IMG_0312.JPG" height="218" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Firstly put the miniature on a solid surface, use something to pad it so you don't crush any detail. Then support both your hands on the table, and place the drill bit central to the hole, and slowly gently drill the hole to a depth of 3mm, take your time so as not to break the holder on the back of the miniature. You can measure the depth with your finger shown below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VjUhBBEzmD0/U0GBLAdtd3I/AAAAAAAABHA/9QY7OG2cMX0/s1600/IMG_0313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VjUhBBEzmD0/U0GBLAdtd3I/AAAAAAAABHA/9QY7OG2cMX0/s1600/IMG_0313.JPG" height="320" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next put the drill through the center of the hand, this is important to do properly as otherwise the grip on the weapon won't look natural. The slide the drill bit back and forth to get the hole good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WUDafyZ5WNg/U0Lc2nEiqiI/AAAAAAAABHI/JGhhrex06NE/s1600/IMG_0314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WUDafyZ5WNg/U0Lc2nEiqiI/AAAAAAAABHI/JGhhrex06NE/s1600/IMG_0314.JPG" height="294" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next the sword will be drilled in</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Id8e9bdWL-Y/U0LdPQECapI/AAAAAAAABHQ/uuTwh3HJNIA/s1600/IMG_0316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Id8e9bdWL-Y/U0LdPQECapI/AAAAAAAABHQ/uuTwh3HJNIA/s1600/IMG_0316.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally you will need to drill the sashimono itself, look for the indentation to see where to drill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SjWA5OfiHLc/U0Ld3SgnIQI/AAAAAAAABHY/_FKJ8Ml_kS8/s1600/IMG_0315.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SjWA5OfiHLc/U0Ld3SgnIQI/AAAAAAAABHY/_FKJ8Ml_kS8/s1600/IMG_0315.JPG" height="236" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next prepare the head for fitting, although a the heads were fitted during sculpting, they may need something trimmed of the neck, depending on the figure. Use a sharp knife or file very carefully slowly remove bits of the neck particularly the edges and bottom, regularly check the fit, also turn the head from side to side to ware off any little obstructing bits of metal, as in the pic below. Bear in mind working with metal heads is harder than plastic because you cannot melt it with the glue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ehRyoUUNosA/U0Lfjl8AfrI/AAAAAAAABHk/9JiGa5jfJf8/s1600/IMG_0318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ehRyoUUNosA/U0Lfjl8AfrI/AAAAAAAABHk/9JiGa5jfJf8/s1600/IMG_0318.JPG" height="280" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next prepare the head for the crest. Now unfortuatly the mould maker decided to remove all the crest lugs I made. So you may need to file a small flat area on the front of the head. Also I don't pin these just use good glue. And be gentle. These kind of miniatures do not take rough handling anyway, because I don't like the dwarf look. I personally recommend muti basing anyway as this protects the a little more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nryzo-TwZK4/U0LgogvkmbI/AAAAAAAABHs/fZMedmj1kD4/s1600/IMG_0319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nryzo-TwZK4/U0LgogvkmbI/AAAAAAAABHs/fZMedmj1kD4/s1600/IMG_0319.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now to glue your miniature. Cut the wire spear using strong cutters, to a length you like, and glue the sashimono in both ends, glue the head in too, I recommend Turning the head a little as it looks natural. But some look better looking down or straight ahead. You need to choose what kind of character your going for. Then glue on the sword and yari.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And your done. Also remember that with forthcoming releases you can really customise your collection, and capture the real look of a samurai force. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can use these principles for all the miniatures requiring assembly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next tutorial will focus on painting your miniature.</div>

<br />
Red armoured samurai, this was a fairly common colour of armour so if your planning of doing a lot of samurai do this go to your local halfords or other car paint supplier and buy a can of matt red undercoat, red brown in colour really, this processs will save a lot of time.<br />
First prep, and assemble you miniature or batch of miniatures, at this point i was and dry them with a hairdrier to remove any grease from the casting process or your hands.<br />
<br />
Now spray prime your miniatures, mabey give several light coats to make sure everywhere is covered, and allow time to dry as you will now be useing water based paints on top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rIaxHuCSvhQ/UX6DYdEauKI/AAAAAAAAABM/f4zodETZo9M/s1600/IMG_1660.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rIaxHuCSvhQ/UX6DYdEauKI/AAAAAAAAABM/f4zodETZo9M/s320/IMG_1660.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
When dry the next phase is to add a black ink wash i use GW nuln oil or badab black, do not use foundry ink as it is too strong and you will have just aswell painted the whole figure black. When applying do no let it pool too much and start from head and work down, what the was will do is give definition to the plates and help your eye pick out the detail.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yGtSfprE2nY/UX6E40DhluI/AAAAAAAAABY/QhpH41cDBgo/s1600/IMG_1661.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yGtSfprE2nY/UX6E40DhluI/AAAAAAAAABY/QhpH41cDBgo/s320/IMG_1661.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Allow wash to dry, then i paint the base coat on the face, i use foundry spearshaft cover all the red on his face including eyes, also paint any other skin on the model this way, sometimes the hands were left bare other times the samurai wore coloured gloves it is up to you, on this model i painted them as flesh.<br />
next take a bright scarlet color i use foundry scarlet C tone, its quite a thin paint which is what we want as it will give the impression of layers of red lacuer. Now with the scarlet im going to start highlighting the armour, use a small brush and start catching the edge of all the plates, between the laces also just catch the upper part of the plate, let the undercoat give you the shade, you will only need to apply one coat of this scarlet highlight, then the armour plates are finished and on to the next step.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-usfdL2_XDGs/UX6IBxSLpKI/AAAAAAAAABs/PRB8VqiSVS8/s1600/IMG_1666.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-usfdL2_XDGs/UX6IBxSLpKI/AAAAAAAAABs/PRB8VqiSVS8/s320/IMG_1666.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Next on to the lacing the most difficult part of painting samurai. Historically there were many kinds of lacing i chose this figure because it has the most difficult type of lacing to paint as there are many laces and each one need to be done individually,<br />
To make it easier try to do just one at a time then do somthing else, first take a fairly fine tipped brush maybe a 00, i use windsor and newton sable as they keep a perfect tip, when choosing your brush dont go cheap, or the finish will look rubbish, mine cost about £8 each but the last ages.<br />
Now with your brush spot each lace you will regularly need to clean you brush to keep the tip moist, usually i tip the figure upside down for painting laces and work on one line at a time, i cannot stress enough with this kind of work, that when you start losing your concentration and making mistakes TAKE A BREAK work on something else for a moment or two, this is because mistakes are easier prevented than corrected. Wait until you have finished all the lacing before correcting mistakes, and you will make some! but i find that sometimes i forget where they are if i leave it until later and if you cannot find them later they dont matter! to correct them use GW dark flesh or similar red brown and later maybe a little black ink once dry if its on a plate joint, once dry highlight will scarlet if nessessary.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H_ma9-xvMnM/UX6N9I-jUgI/AAAAAAAAAB8/nmNtx99Qzfw/s1600/IMG_1723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H_ma9-xvMnM/UX6N9I-jUgI/AAAAAAAAAB8/nmNtx99Qzfw/s320/IMG_1723.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
For the lacing i used foundry ocher B i dont normally bother higlighting it because i think the impression of one coat is normally good enough. The colours for lacing that look best in my opinion on red armour are<br />
Buff<br />
Ocher<br />
Dark blue<br />
Bright deep orange almost scarlet<br />
White<br />
Green<br />
Now on to other parts i paint at this stage, i give the skin a wash of GW devlan mud or similar, it will give shade and flow into the mouth eyes finger joints ect, i never paint eyes because first they can often make a figure look rubbish if not done perfectly, i,e if your not a brilliant paint DONT DO EYES your figures will look rubbish, but also i think leaving out the eyes gives a shady look under the brim of the kabuto<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MOzhegKb8zQ/UX6RU84m3CI/AAAAAAAAACM/MMa5UuO1qKQ/s1600/IMG_1723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MOzhegKb8zQ/UX6RU84m3CI/AAAAAAAAACM/MMa5UuO1qKQ/s320/IMG_1723.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also a this point any gold/brass on the figure give that a wash of devlan mud too, i find it helps to do all the inking at the same time, i,e flesh gold shade between lacind if desired.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At this stage i also painted the spear tip, though really it is easier to paint that at the begining then when you give the figure its coat of black ink at the start you would get it shaded at the same time killing two birds with one stone so to speak.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTUYZ9siSPo/UX6TDdFlpUI/AAAAAAAAACY/Bw9keudwkC8/s1600/IMG_1724.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTUYZ9siSPo/UX6TDdFlpUI/AAAAAAAAACY/Bw9keudwkC8/s320/IMG_1724.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now we have compeated most of the hard work, the final things are feet flesh highlights and such,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
for the flesh highlights i use spearshaft C then another highlight on the very tips of Spearshaft C and light flesh C, possibly also another highlight of Light flesh C alone just on the tip of nose check bones knukles and finger nails. It is well worth making the flesh zing with extra higlights the more you add the more realistic your figure will be, and its easier than eyes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9rmoixTswkU/UX6VOb374eI/AAAAAAAAACo/LtNjbbzCv_o/s1600/SAM_0419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9rmoixTswkU/UX6VOb374eI/AAAAAAAAACo/LtNjbbzCv_o/s1600/SAM_0419.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next Sashinono, i will be doing more articles on this later but just highlight it red or paint in any colour you want, for the yari and sashimono holder at this point just coat in brown ink, leaving the red undercoat do the talking, as yari were often painted red.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UtDy0AD4QXM/UX6Wi5AT3sI/AAAAAAAAAC4/lwo-a0LFKM8/s1600/SAM_0420.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UtDy0AD4QXM/UX6Wi5AT3sI/AAAAAAAAAC4/lwo-a0LFKM8/s320/SAM_0420.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the shadeing on the flag itself i used red ink wash. i then painted the sash white as that was a common colour but give a good contrast. Next i painted the swords dark grey highlighted light grey on the very edges and when dry gave the a black ink wash, this helps give the opaque lacured look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
i painted the trousers a plain colour on this one but will later give you a tutorial on more complex clothing. The feet i painted ocher too,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Y3k0KFD440/UX6YeB09c1I/AAAAAAAAADE/uVyZfb38Wgk/s1600/SAM_0419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Y3k0KFD440/UX6YeB09c1I/AAAAAAAAADE/uVyZfb38Wgk/s320/SAM_0419.jpg" width="243" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Final touches, highlight your brass for the maedate i also put some very small highlights that look like an inscripton, then give the figure a final look over, and you ready to varnish /base up</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Jw6h9sIHsY/UX6ZVE2_UaI/AAAAAAAAADU/qpPfI_4kvJQ/s1600/SAM_0445.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Jw6h9sIHsY/UX6ZVE2_UaI/AAAAAAAAADU/qpPfI_4kvJQ/s320/SAM_0445.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For varnish i use daler rowney, solvent based, very flat if you want a slight sheen krylon matt is great, and quick i hear it also bullet proof, i dont bother glossing first, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zv4Axuvhg7g/UX6s8GncsaI/AAAAAAAAAD0/m8znSSO76iQ/s1600/SAM_0447.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zv4Axuvhg7g/UX6s8GncsaI/AAAAAAAAAD0/m8znSSO76iQ/s320/SAM_0447.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also you may have noticed i have left the mail as inked under coat this is because mail was often lacured, if you prefer yo could paint it gun metal then ink black.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
please follow all saftey instrution on any products list here, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally many painters are very intimidated by paining samurai, but they are very rewarding and colourful what i find facinating about them is they all had there own customized armours with almost endless variation, whats more the sengoku period were complex times full of very interesting characters, i find the period a bit like the wars of the roses only in japan and with more tactical/weapons options.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once painted few armies look better than samurai!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
More tutorials will be added soon with lots of other hints info on black armour brown armour/ gold clothing and sashimono. so more soon...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
